How about cleaning up this subforum a little?
Is there a policy of every thread remains here, even when locked and a dustbin of horrible? Can you not at least have a bin subforum - appropriately named - to put away some of the threads here? It is not just the locked ones, what I find is clutter and I don't actually know where or how to talk to people about plaza things - and not through want of looking.
All I came here to ask was what the deal is on Short Story competitions? Have stories now been rolled up into the general art competitions, managed by @Drifa? Who do I talk to about organizing a story competition?
That is why I came here. It is not really an admin question. But where else on the plaza should it be posted? I honestly have trouble working out what goes where on this place, still.

Could the threads be gathered and moved to the NuPlaza Archive?
You can open a Short Story competition in any forum, dragon, just like any other topic. There is no deal.

Thank you, Drifa! Will wait for the Forests competition to finish, though.
Admins, a different request. I now consider
The Guide to Stairs complete and finished. Any future posts will see a new thread (volume II). May I request that the thread be locked?
Thank you.

I do apologize if i sound brusque in the post above observing the mess in this thread.
the real thing that is bugging me is that there seems no place to discuss general plaza stuff. e.g. a story competition. or a campaign to unite the other kingdoms against Mordor, or what have you. so i am driven to the admin thread, which possibly then gets stuff that does not quite belong? (like my plaza guides thread below, which was really another attempt to work out where to say or ask what, only then I had Eph. in mind.)
i may be missing some obvious subforum. sorry.

Hi. I hope I have not offended anyway with the conversation above! Apologies again, if so.
Could I reiterate my request for my Guide to Stairs - in Media Adaptations (which I deem its home) be locked?
Thank you.

Hey
@Chrysophylax Dives
No one got offended! You just operate on a different speed level
Drifa is right, you can open a short story contest just about anywhere - traditionally it would NOT be held in Lore, Media Adaptations or Admin Messages, but otherwise the other fora have always been fair play.
Questions like these are 100% okay to ask in this forum, admin messages. You're nailing it. I'll lock your thread!

So, I acknowledge a bad fault. The bane of editors. I make revisions. All the time.
@Arnyn - bowing to your slower admin rhytms, as there is no actual hurry here, but may I ask you or a colleague to unlock my Guide to Stairs? Revisions made elsewhere require revisions in the Guide. Sorry.

I was wondering if some admin tidying of the ROP discussions might help a little. To be fair, the real problem is in the series, and I doubt tidying will help much. But atm we have stickied a 'Rings Of Power Discussion Threads' that is locked and concludes at the end of season 1. Maybe this should be unstickied? Maybe stickied in its place a revised version that is focused on season 2?
Just an idea. I have a tidying fetish.

Who's gonna make that season 2 version? Not me...

Care to make it, Chrys, so it can be stickied?

This is what happens when we lose the Golden Goose.
The Season 1 sticky thread has been unstickied. Maybe that is the best we can hope for in this new age of our decrepid world?

In the past plaza members were handsome elves, now they are hobbits and badgers, but this is merely one of the many facts that demonstrate the disaster of our aging world. The young no longer want to study anything, learning is in decline, the whole world walks on its head, blind men lead others equally blind and cause them to plunge into the abyss, geese leave the nest before they can fly, the jackass plays the lyre, oxen dance. Mary no longer loves the contemplative life and Martha no longer loves the active life, Arwin is sterile, Galadriel has a carnal eye, Cato visits brothels, Lucretius becomes a hasty Ent. Everything is on the wrong path.

I can do it. I'm relatively indifferent to Rings of Power just as I was with Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings. It's got its issues, and there is some good stuff in it.
I can style the thread to be stickied after Silky's S1 thread and I'll create the individual episode threads and link to them. I wonder if there would be discussions about the content of the show, good and bad, or will the threads just be filled with the usual blanket anti-Rings of Power stuff that has been said and said again since at least February 2022.

@Pele Alarion - I made a thread with links to both season 1 and season 2 discussion threads. If you or another admin want to pin it, feel free.

O yay! Possibly my lamentation on the descent into the abyss of our aged world was premature.
In the past plaza members were handsome elves, now most are hobbits and badgers - with the exception of the hasty Ent, but this is merely one of the many facts that demonstrate the disaster of our aging world. The young no longer want to study anything, learning is in decline, the whole world walks on its head, blind men lead others equally blind and cause them to plunge into the abyss, geese leave the nest before they can fly, the jackass plays the lyre, oxen dance. Mary no longer loves the contemplative life and Martha no longer loves the active life, Arwin is sterile, Galadriel has a carnal eye, Cato visits brothels, Lucretius becomes a dancing Ranger. Everyone except the hasty Ent is on the wrong path.
PS. 'Hasty Ent' in the original was random, but in this revision it has an intended reference, namely the Annalist, Physician, & Historian of The Black Company of the Dúnedain, The Free Company of Arnor.

That signature was something my character Hanasian was in a 4th Age roleplay I was writing with some fine people back in 2012-2015 on another (now defunct) site.

You did! Thanks. I covered the first season threads as well as the 2nd. If it remains editable, I'll add coming seasons if I'm still alive when they come out. Hopefully they won't take years between seasons.

I figure there is no need to lock it, unless all sorts of comments get out of hand, so it can remain editable.

Thank you on the icons. I had come to the conclusion that this Halloween would be passed over on the plaza. In previous years I have paid zero attention to the Halloween malarky, but this time round realized that I rather missed the experience of not paying attention to it.

If I raised the subject of revising some icons how would it go down? Is that the kind of question that leads to raised eyebrows and memories of rabbit holes and an end of the conversation? That would be OK. It is not like a burning issue, if you pardon the pun.
I post as a Hobbit. I would quite like to try being a Hobbit on the plaza, at least for a while, but for four years that I have not been a Hobbit I have thought that these Hobbit pipe icons look silly. One or two might be OK, but all Hobbits = a pipe?
What would it take to have some additional Hobbit rank icon options?

I could not stomach the pipe. I tried being a Dwarf - but that lasted like 10 seconds. Tree, again.

@Arnyn,
@Pele Alarion,
@Rivvy Elf - also
@Drifa (because the Dwarf seems concerned with this kind of thing).
At the moment I'm using some plaza threads for my own work, and plan to continue to do so for a few months as I work on the last third of my book, which deals with the making of LotR. The result on occasion will be a set of (relatively) comprehensive notes on some Tolkien volume. So far, I have gone through all of
Return of the Shadow here.
I was just wondering if, as with this
Return of the Shadow thread, once it is finished it might be moved to the NuLibrary? This particular thread, at any rate, seems to belong there.
Just a suggestion.
